Energy, Pichetto: "Government considering measures to mitigate price increases"

Rome, Feb 5 (LaPresse) – "The government is committed to evaluating possible structural and temporary measures to mitigate the effects of rising energy prices, taking into account the need for a careful balance between protecting families and supporting the national production system for a sustainable energy transition," said Environment and Energy Security Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin while responding to a question time session in the Chamber of Deputies.

"The recent increases in energy prices for households and businesses," Pichetto noted, "are linked to the high volatility of wholesale energy commodity markets, which have been generally rising across Europe due to various factors, particularly geopolitical tensions in certain regions of the world."

"The government's initiatives to reduce energy costs for families and businesses," the minister continued, "are aligned with the decarbonization pathway set out in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC)."

"In this regard, the energy release measure aims to encourage the contribution of energy-intensive industries to the development of new renewable energy generation capacity," Pichetto added. "As for measures supporting vulnerable individuals, the ARERA resolution of January 21, 2025, established the procedures for domestic vulnerable customers to request access to the gradual protection service."

"In this way," Pichetto concluded, "even vulnerable customers who request access to the gradual protection service by June 30, 2025, will benefit from particularly favorable service prices following the auction procedures."
