Milan, May 16 (LaPresse) – In April 2025, final estimates from Istat for the National Consumer Price Index for the entire nation (NIC), including tobacco, show an increase of 0.1% on a monthly basis and 1.9% on an annual basis, thus remaining stable compared to March 2025. The figure is a downward revision from the preliminary estimate of +2.0%. According to Istat, the stability in inflation reflects contrasting trends among different spending categories: in particular, prices of unregulated energy goods slowed (from +0.7% to -3.4%), as did tobacco prices (from +4.6% to +3.4%). Conversely, prices for regulated energy goods accelerated (from +27.2% to +31.7%), as did prices of food products—both unprocessed (from +3.3% to +4.2%) and processed (from +1.9% to +2.2%)—and transport-related services (from +1.6% to +4.4%). In April, “core inflation,” which excludes energy and fresh food, rose from +1.7% to +2.1%, as did inflation excluding only energy goods (from +1.8% to +2.2%). Year-on-year price growth for goods slowed (from +1.5% to +1.0%), while price growth for services rose (from +2.5% to +3.0%). The inflation gap between the services and goods sectors widened to +2.0 percentage points (from +1.0 in the previous month).
