Rome, 19 May (LaPresse) – “We must adapt the industrial plan to what has happened, especially in the transition phase towards the construction of electric furnaces and the related DRIs that will produce the pre-reduced material for the electric furnaces, which must necessarily be fuelled by gas”. This was stated by Adolfo Urso, Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, on the sidelines of the meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development with business associations and companies in the Taranto area, emphasising that negotiations with the Azerbaijanis are continuing. ‘In short, we are starting with gas and therefore with the regasification ship that must be anchored in the port of Taranto, because the DRIs that we are supposed to build, which will produce the pre-reduced gas for the electric furnaces, are gas-fired,’ he continued. Then the RAIs will provide the material for the electric furnaces that need to be installed, and with a plan that will obviously take several years to complete, we will be able to achieve the goal of a fully green steel plant in Taranto which, together with those we are building in Terni and Piombino and, of course, those that Italian companies are building in the north of our country, will enable us to become the most advanced country in Europe in terms of green steel production. The path is clear, it is being implemented in every area of our country, and I hope that it will be possible to do so, I am convinced of it, with the collaboration of everyone, including in Taranto,’ concluded the minister.
