USA, FT: “Trump administration preparing to impose new tariffs on medicines”

London, Apr. 2 (LaPresse) – The Trump administration is preparing to impose 100% tariffs on certain medicines, while also pushing pharmaceutical companies to increase production in the United States. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the matter, according to whom the new tariffs would apply to companies that have not reached agreements with the White House. The Financial Times recalls that last autumn the U.S. president threatened to impose 100% tariffs on imports of brand-name or patented medicines unless the manufacturer built a facility in the United States. Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Novo Nordisk are among the companies that have reached agreements with the Trump administration to increase U.S. investments and reduce the prices of their drugs in exchange for a suspension of the tariffs.
