Cinema, Mereghetti on Regeni case: "I resigned to underline my distance from certain choices"

Rome, Apr 7 (LaPresse) – "I sent a resignation letter this morning from my role, not only over the Regeni documentary, but let’s say that in the resignation letter I wanted to underline my distance from certain choices, a matter of consistency." This was stated to LaPresse by film critic Paolo Mereghetti, confirming his decision to resign from his position as expert consultant of the MiC commission that evaluates the granting of funding to deserving films. Among these, the decision not to grant such funds to the documentary on Giulio Regeni has sparked considerable debate. "I would like to avoid increasing the controversy," Mereghetti added by phone, "but I would point out that I had already defended the Regeni documentary in Io Donna." Like Mereghetti, expert Massimo Galimberti has also resigned from the same role.
