Climate: Italy in 2100, warmer, less rain, more extreme events

Rome, 18 Dec. (LaPresse) – In Italy, temperatures will rise and rainfall will decrease steadily by 2100. This is what emerges from a study – which also covers the entire Mediterranean basin – developed by Enea, which highlights “how in our country these changes will be accompanied by a marked increase in the frequency of extreme events with intense storms and sudden floods, especially during the autumn season in the Alps”. “We used very high-resolution regional climate projections,” explains study coordinator Maria Vittoria Struglia, a researcher at Enea's Climate Models and Services Laboratory, “which, like a magnifying glass, allowed us to determine with extreme precision the expected impacts in 2100, especially in relation to extreme events and local phenomena”.
