Palermo, Feb 11 (LaPresse) – A large-scale anti-mafia operation by the Carabinieri of the Palermo provincial command is underway, targeting mafia clans in Palermo and its province. The operation involves multiple investigations coordinated by Prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia, Deputy Prosecutor Marzia Sabella, and deputy prosecutors from the district anti-mafia directorate. These investigations have led to the execution of 183 precautionary measures, signed by several judges from the Palermo court. The massive raid involves territorial Carabinieri units, the operational department, the "Cacciatori di Sicilia" task force, the 2nd Sicilian Regiment, the Calabria Battalion, and the IX Helicopter Unit of Palermo, totaling 1,200 officers. The operation has also extended to other Italian cities, aiming to dismantle mafia clans in Palermo and its province, particularly in the districts of "Porta Nuova," "Pagliarelli," "Tommaso Natale – San Lorenzo," "Santa Maria del Gesù," and "Bagheria." Those arrested are accused of various crimes, including mafia-type criminal association, attempted murder, extortion (both completed and attempted) aggravated by mafia methods, drug trafficking, aiding and abetting, illegal possession of weapons, property crimes, personal offenses, and illegal gambling operations. The warrants were executed in several cities, including Palermo, Trapani, Catania, Reggio Calabria, Arezzo, Florence, Milan, and multiple prisons across the country. Details of the operation will be released in a press conference at the Carabinieri provincial command in Palermo, attended by the Palermo prosecutor and the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo.
