Milan, May 1 (LaPresse) – Two firefighting Canadair planes from the Italian Fire Brigade took off this morning toward Israel to provide support against wildfires as rescEU-IT resources within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism. This was announced by the Civil Protection Department in a statement.
"Following the request for assistance received by the Emergency Response Coordination Centre in Brussels from the Israeli authorities due to the fires affecting the country, the Italian government, through the Civil Protection Department, immediately arranged for the dispatch of two Canadair aircraft from the Fire Brigade."
The system allows two Canadair aircraft stationed in Italy, if not needed domestically, to be sent abroad when necessary.
The Italian crews will be supported by a representative from the Italian Civil Protection Department and one from the National Fire Brigade to maintain necessary contacts with local authorities.
