Milan, May 2 (LaPresse) – A 65-year-old man from Mantua has been arrested for assaulting a doctor on duty at the emergency room of the Civil Hospital of Asola. The incident occurred in the late morning of Wednesday, April 30, when the man, apparently tired of waiting for his turn, began shouting at the nurses on duty. Despite attempts by the medical staff to calm him down, he continued protesting loudly in the waiting room.
A doctor on duty came out of the emergency room offices and invited the man to remain calm, but the 65-year-old lashed out at him, violently grabbing his arm. Medical staff contacted the Carabinieri station in Asola, who quickly intervened and restored order. The assaulted doctor was treated by a colleague and sustained injuries deemed to require ten days of recovery.
The 65-year-old was taken to the local Carabinieri station. The officers reviewed surveillance footage from the emergency room’s waiting area and reconstructed the events. He was declared under arrest for causing bodily harm to a healthcare professional and placed under house arrest. Today, the judge for preliminary investigations (GIP) of the Mantua Court validated the arrest and imposed a daily obligation to report to judicial authorities.
