Pope: US Vice President Vance expected to arrive in Rome today

Rome, 17 May (LaPresse) – US Vice President James David Vance is expected to arrive in Rome on Saturday afternoon to attend tomorrow's inauguration ceremony for Pope Leo XIV at St. Peter's Basilica. As with the other delegations, extensive security measures will be in place along the route from the airport to the capital and around the Villa Taverna residence in Parioli. Among the more than 180 delegations attending the event at the Vatican, those who have announced their presence include European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. The President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, is expected to attend. Also present will be King Philippe of Belgium and Queen Mathilde, the new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
