Vatican: Pope meets Vance to discuss respect for humanitarian law in conflict areas

Vatican City (Vatican), 19 May (LaPresse) – "This morning, Monday 19 May 2025, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV received in audience the Vice President of the United States of America, Hon. James David Vance, who later met with H.E. Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations. During the cordial discussions in the Secretariat of State, satisfaction was expressed for the good bilateral relations and attention was focused on cooperation between the Church and the State, as well as on some issues of particular importance for ecclesial life and religious freedom. Finally, there was an exchange of views on some issues of international concern, with the hope that humanitarian law and international law will be respected in areas of conflict and that a negotiated solution will be found between the parties involved.
