Genoa, 12 July (LaPresse) – He reportedly noticed a child near his land calling for his father in one of the streets climbing the first hills of Latte, a hamlet of Ventimiglia, the last inhabited place before reaching the state border. He accompanied him along the path to a fork in the road. This is the account – currently unconfirmed – provided by the witness, a local resident who was interviewed today by the Imperia Carabinieri and then taken to the barracks after an inspection of his home as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Alain Bernard Ganao, who disappeared from the Por La Mar campsite in Latte, where he was on holiday with his family, who are residents of Turin but of Asian origin. The little boy, who has autism and difficulty speaking, has not been heard from since yesterday at 7.30 p.m., when the campsite's CCTV cameras filmed him leaving the village and walking along the road. The investigation began immediately and has been ongoing for hours without any results so far. While the public prosecutor's office has opened a file for investigation, the entire area is being combed inch by inch by a team of almost 200 operators. A local crisis unit has also been set up in the centre of Latte, where investigators are coordinating with the fire brigade, police, carabinieri, mountain rescue, civil protection, drones, two helicopters, the harbour master's office and the many volunteers who have made themselves available. Dog units and thermal cameras are also in the field to detect any presence, as well as two sniffer dogs, which have picked up a scent around the witness's house in Via Torretta, perhaps confirming that the child passed by.
