Drugs: fugitive sentenced to 25 years extradited from Albania

Turin, 16 July (LaPresse) – A 56-year-old Albanian fugitive, subject to an extradition order to Italy following investigations conducted by the State Police, landed at Fiumicino airport from Tirana, Albania. The man, escorted by the International Police Cooperation Service of the Department of Public Security, will have to serve a final sentence of 25 years' imprisonment, pursuant to a ruling issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Appeal of Salerno, for kidnapping, attempted extortion, personal injury, illegal possession of weapons and association for the purpose of drug trafficking. The man, formerly at the head of an organisation involved in international drug trafficking between South America, Italy and Albania, is believed to be responsible, among other things, for a kidnapping committed in the 1990s in Piedmont, as well as for cooperating with a criminal organisation involved in heroin trafficking, active in the province of Salerno between the late 1990s and early 2000s, facilitating the importation of large quantities of drugs into that area.
