Rome, July 28 (LaPresse) – There are 16 new cases of West Nile virus in Lazio, along with 1 new death, according to a statement from the Region. "The Lazio Region," the note reads, "reports that 16 new cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed by tests conducted at the Virology Laboratory of the 'Lazzaro Spallanzani' National Institute for Infectious Diseases IRCCS (4 cases with neurological syndrome and 12 cases with West Nile fever), with one death reported today likely linked to exposure in the Province of Caserta. The deceased, a 77-year-old man who passed away at the 'Lazzaro Spallanzani' National Institute for Infectious Diseases IRCCS, was a resident of Isola del Liri and had recently stayed in Baia Domizia (Caserta). The man, who underwent a heart transplant in 2014 and was under follow-up care at the AO San Camillo Forlanini, also suffered from chronic kidney failure. With these latest confirmations, the total number of diagnosed West Nile infections in 2025 rises to 44, recorded in the Province of Latina (41 cases in total, including a patient who died last week at the Fondi hospital), in the Province of Rome (2 cases), and 1 out-of-region case likely exposed in the Province of Caserta."
