Milan, July 31 (LaPresse) – “Of the 54,000 enrolled in the semester open at the Faculty of Medicine, about half will be able to obtain the coveted spot. Since there are 14,700 specialization scholarships and 2,000 for general medicine, in six years we will have at least 10,000 graduates who will need to find employment, for example by looking for jobs abroad. These numbers, more than a tribute to the profession, are a tribute to future unemployment for us.”
This is the comment from Pierino Di Silverio, National Secretary of Anaao Assomed, on data released by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) regarding enrollment in the medicine screening semester.
“The 26,000 students excluded, after a semester of illusion, will go from dreaming to the nightmare of what to do with their lives. They may try to enroll again, starting late compared to colleagues who have already been enrolled for six months. Last but not least,” Di Silverio continues, “the infamous test is not eliminated but replaced by other exams. There are few positive elements: a more relevant test and retention of the enrollment cap. But the judgment method remains aristocratic rather than meritocratic, and courses will be online despite the attendance requirement. A reform that, when applied in reality, will unfortunately have devastating effects on the future of many students. What is the point? We don’t see it. Doctors are lacking today in some specialties, not in 10 years. It would have been enough,” concludes Di Silverio, “to provide homogeneous programs, textbooks, free preparatory courses, and relevant tests without wasting the time and hopes of tens of thousands of students.”
