West Nile: first case in Valle d’Aosta, patient not contagious

Rome, Aug. 19 (LaPresse) – A patient tested positive for the West Nile virus and has been hospitalized at Parini Hospital, the Valle d’Aosta Local Health Authority announced. This is the first diagnosed case in the region and is an imported one: the patient, who resides outside Valle d’Aosta, contracted the infection elsewhere but, without having previously received a diagnosis, traveled to Valle d’Aosta for a stay. After arriving at the emergency room with abdominal pain, the patient underwent a serological test for West Nile, as per protocol for investigating fever. The result was positive, and the patient was hospitalized for a condition likely related.
