Naples, Sept. 15 (LaPresse) – The Campania Regional Council unanimously approved a motion that “condemns acts of war in the Gaza Strip” and urges the Italian government to suspend all institutional and commercial relations with the Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu.
The motion was signed by Five Star Movement councillors Michele Cammarano, Vincenzo Ciampi, and Gennaro Saiello, and presented to the chamber by the latter. “While we discuss this,” said Saiello, “a child dies every hour in the Gaza Strip. There are over 640,000 people reduced to starvation. A true genocide is taking place, which pushes us to take a stance. We are aware that the Campania Region does not have direct competence over such a major national and international issue, but I believe it is essential that a clear message can be sent to the government and to the relevant international bodies from this chamber.”
