Milan, Sept. 16 (LaPresse) – "If all goes well, tomorrow we should go to the City Council Executive Committee, because in fact we’ve reached an agreement with the clubs. The Executive will carry out its task with a resolution, which I believe will be favorable to this project."
This is what the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, said on RTL 102.5, referring to the resolution on the stadium.
"In a municipality, the mayor and the Executive Committee act autonomously on certain matters," Sala recalled. "On others – for example, the sale of significant public assets like the stadium – it’s necessary to go through the City Council. We will bring it to the Council, there will be committee meetings and discussions, and then there will have to be a yes or no.
I want to have a clear conscience, to have done what citizens expect me to do, which is to face problems when they arise. So I will bring it to the Council, I will recommend approval, I will definitely vote in favor, and then it will be up to the Council.
Timeline? I believe by the end of the month."
As Sala pointed out, "The stadium must be ready by 2031, because UEFA is telling us they won’t consider Milan among the host cities for Euro 2032 if San Siro remains."
