Naples: man struck with taser by Carabinieri, dies in ambulance

Naples, 6 October (LaPresse) – A man died in Naples after being tasered by the Carabinieri. The Naples mobile police unit intervened this morning at around 8.40 a.m. at a house in Via Nicola Fornelli, in the Chiaia district, following a report of a dispute to the 112 emergency number. Inside the house, from which screams and the sound of broken furniture and plates could be heard, were a woman with her daughter, both Italian, and a 35-year-old man of North African origin. It was the latter who opened the door to the Carabinieri, appearing completely naked and in a state of confusion. The officers were attacked by the man and, after a futile attempt to calm him down, they first used pepper spray, then a taser. After being hit with the taser, the man was placed in an ambulance by the 118 emergency medical staff who arrived on the scene and transported to the hospital, but he died on the way. The body was made available to the judicial authorities for an autopsy.
