Pope Leo XIV remembers Saint John Paul II, open yourselves to Christ

Rome, 22 October (LaPresse) – ‘Today we celebrate the liturgical memorial of St. John Paul II. Exactly 47 years ago, in this square, he urged the world to open itself to Christ. This appeal is still valid today: we are all called to make it our own.’ Thus Pope Leo XIV greeted the Polish faithful during Wednesday's general audience. Prevost is referring to 22 October 1978, when Pope Wojtyla celebrated Mass at the beginning of his pontificate and, during his homily, urged: "Do not be afraid! Open, indeed, open wide the doors to Christ! Open to his saving power the boundaries of states, economic and political systems, the vast fields of culture, civilisation and development. Do not be afraid! Christ knows “what is in man”. Only he knows it!"
