Paderno massacre, 19-year-old waives appeal: “I want to pay”

Milan, Nov. 6 (LaPresse) – Riccardo Chiarioni, who on the night between August 31 and September 1, 2024, killed with a knife his family (father, mother, and 12-year-old brother) in their home in Paderno Dugnano, near Milan, has decided to forgo the appeal trial before the Juvenile Court of Milan. His lawyer, Amedeo Rizza, had intended to challenge the 20-year prison sentence (the maximum penalty for the charges), particularly to emphasize the psychiatric evaluation, which had been disregarded by the first-instance court despite finding a partial mental defect in the young man. According to the lawyer, it was Chiarioni himself—17 at the time of the massacre and now an adult—who chose to waive the appeal, explaining that he wants to pay for the crime committed and to rebuild his life after serving the sentence.
