Milan, 2 December (LaPresse) – ‘On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, dedicated this year to the theme “Promoting inclusive societies for persons with disabilities to achieve social progress”, UNICEF reminds us that one in ten children in the world, or nearly 240 million children, has a disability,’ said UNICEF Italy President Nicola Graziano. In Italy, UNICEF has identified the situation of children and adolescents with disabilities as one of the priorities to which institutions, civil society and public opinion should pay greater attention in order to support families and guarantee the rights of these minors. These priorities range from the lack of data on younger children to the discrimination that children and adolescents experience in all areas of life: from school (the number of support teachers is inadequate and their training needs to be improved) to personal assistants and communication assistants (not uniformly guaranteed throughout the country) to participation and the right to play and participate in sports.
