Migrants: German NGO ship SOS Humanity detained in Ortona

Rome, 3 December (LaPresse) – The Humanity 1, a search and rescue ship belonging to the German NGO SOS Humanity, has been temporarily detained and placed under investigation in the port of Ortona after rescuing 160 people in two operations carried out last week. The humanitarian organisation itself announced this on social media, stating, “We refuse to communicate with the Libyan authorities. These individuals are responsible for the illegal repatriation of asylum seekers to Libya, where they suffer serious human rights violations. As part of the Justice Fleet Alliance, we will not legitimise those who endanger human lives! Every detention reduces our capacity to rescue people at sea and therefore puts more people at risk,” the post reads.
