Bolzano, 23 January (LaPresse) – A hiker died this morning following an accident in the mountains in the Merano 2000 area. The victim was an ice climber who was climbing an icefall in the area with a friend. The accident occurred along the access route known as Katzenleiter, literally “the ladder of facts”. According to reports, the victim fell and died instantly. The alarm was raised this morning at around 7:40 a.m. Mountain rescue workers and a rescue helicopter were called to the scene, but there was nothing they could do for the victim.
