Brussels, Feb. 4 (LaPresse) – “Enough of scandalous tricks, those practices must cease that are used to appear in order when one is not in order.” This was stated by Health Minister Orazio Schillaci, speaking with unusual harshness at the presentation of the checks carried out by the NAS Carabinieri during 2025. Checks which, the minister claimed, also concerned the issue of waiting lists. And this as early as 2023, “on my instruction.” An action born from the fact that the data “highlighted an excessive recourse to intramoenia. Now the rules are clear,” Schillaci stressed, underlining that before this government “no one had really dealt with waiting lists. I put my face on it.” In 2025, 1,930 inspections were carried out at health directorates, departments and booking centers, which led to 9 arrests and 105 reports to the judicial authority. But the inspection work, the minister clarified, cannot replace good organization and controls at company and regional level. Hence the strong call for a sense of responsibility. “This is not about shifting the blame,” he said. But about combating inappropriate prescriptions, cleaning up the lists, activating effective recall systems. “If there is the will,” the system can work better, Schillaci assures. “This is a fundamental match, either we win it or we risk losing everything,” he concluded. “And I do not want to lose it.”
