Milan, 9 February (LaPresse) – The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered the urgent judicial control of Foodinho srl, the company that manages the Glovo food delivery platform, on suspicion of aggravated illegal hiring of 2,000 riders in Milan and 40,000 throughout Italy. Prosecutor Paolo Storari has entered the company's sole director, Spanish national Miquel Oscar Pierre, and the company itself in the register of suspects under the law on administrative liability of entities for employing workers in “conditions of exploitation” and “taking advantage of their state of need”. In particular, 2,000 riders in the Lombard capital and 40,000 throughout Italy were allegedly paid wages that in some cases were “up to 76.95%” below the poverty line and 81.62% below the sector's collective agreements. These wages violate Article 36 of the Constitution because they are neither adequate nor proportionate to the quality and quantity of work performed in order to guarantee ‘a free and dignified existence’ for workers. The emergency judicial control decree, which must be reviewed by a judge within 10 days, was executed by the Carabinieri of the Milan Labour Inspectorate Unit.
