Turin, unrest during protests: 18 precautionary measures against activists

Turin, Feb. 19 (LaPresse) – Eighteen precautionary measures have been carried out by the Turin State Police against activists from the antagonistic area, under investigation for damage, aggravated coercion, aggravated resistance, and injuries to public officials. The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Turin Court at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office following detailed investigations by the Digos. The measures, executed this morning, involve 18 individuals (11 men and 7 women) and consist of 5 house arrests, 12 daily reporting obligations to the judicial police, and a ban on residing in the municipality of Turin. The charges refer to several incidents between September and November of last year.

Investigators reconstructed events related to the September 24 demonstration in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla, when about 1,500 people marched to Porta Susa station: here, approximately 700 demonstrators forced an entrance and occupied the railway tracks for about one hour and twenty minutes, causing a traffic block. Additional responsibilities are linked to the October 2 events, when around thirty activists cycled to the “Sandro Pertini” airport in Caselle, cut the perimeter fence, and caused flight suspensions for about 30 minutes. On the same day, during an evening march, some protesters entered the OGR during the “Italian Tech Week” event, damaging furniture and vehicles and pushing security personnel. During the subsequent intervention by the Mobile Unit, two operators were injured.

Disorders on October 3 around the OGR and in front of the Leonardo headquarters on Corso Francia are also contested, with six Mobile Unit operators injured and damage to vehicles in the company parking lot. Other incidents include the November 14 intrusion into the Metropolitan City of Turin headquarters during the “No Meloni Day” demonstration, when nine operators were injured, and the November 28 intrusion into the La Stampa newspaper headquarters, where doors, a surveillance camera, and walls were damaged. During the investigation, Turin Digos reported numerous alleged perpetrators and carried out a total of 21 home searches; an additional three searches, including digital ones, were conducted simultaneously with the execution of the measures with support from the Cybersecurity Operations Center.
