Deliveroo under investigation, 20,000 riders with wages 90% below the poverty line

Milan, 25 February (LaPresse) – The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered urgent judicial control of Deliveroo for illegal hiring of 3,000 riders in Milan and 20,000 throughout Italy, who were allegedly paid wages ‘up to about 90%’ below the poverty line and collective bargaining agreements and in any case not proportionate “to the quality or quantity of work” performed, in violation of Article 36 of the Constitution because they do not guarantee “a free and dignified existence”. The public prosecutor, Paolo Storari, has entered Andrea Zocchi, the 65-year-old sole administrator of Deliveroo Italy srl and managing director of the food delivery giant with a turnover of €240 million in Italy, controlled by the British company Roofoods Ltd, in the register of suspects on charges of aggravated illegal hiring.
