Rome, 27 February (LaPresse) – The flu curve continues to decline this week as the season draws to a close: more than half of the regions have a number of cases below the threshold considered “baseline”, and in the others, the intensity is classified as low. These are the figures from the RespiVirnet surveillance bulletin of the Higher Institute of Health. In the week between 16 and 22 February, the surveillance system recorded just over 400,000 cases of acute respiratory infections in Italy, a broad label that includes disorders with at least one symptom among cough, sore throat, respiratory problems, and runny nose. Among these, the proportion of influenza is steadily declining: approximately 5% of the samples analysed by laboratories belonging to the surveillance network tested positive for influenza viruses. Other agents, such as respiratory syncytial virus, rhinovirus, and coronavirus, are more common.
