Rome, 8 May (LaPresse) – As part of the intensified customs border controls carried out at the airport, staff from the Customs and Monopolies Agency and officers from the Malpensa Group have carried out numerous checks aimed at intercepting attempts to import medicines and other chemicals harmful to health, lacking the necessary authorisations for marketing within the country. The checks at the Varese airport – the result of an in-depth analysis of passenger flows and freight shipments, supported by the use of advanced screening tools, such as state-of-the-art scanners, and the operational experience gained over time by staff – led to the interception of 6,290 packages of pharmaceutical products and medical and surgical devices. The medicines found, some of which are not marketed in Italy and therefore do not comply with current health regulations, were intended for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries, as well as for weight loss.
