Rome, May 14 (LaPresse) – ”The university exists to promote the integral formation of the person, for true education aims at the formation of the human person in relation to his ultimate end and to the good of the various societies of which he is a member." So said Pope Leo XIV in his message sent to the Bolivian Catholic University of San Pablo on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its founding. “The motto that identifies this institution, Veritas in Caritate (Truth in Charity), takes on a special meaning. This expression,” adds Pope Leo XIV, “eloquently sums up the university’s mission, undertaken from a perspective of faith. In the Christian tradition, truth is not simply an intellectual ideal or an abstract concept, but finds its identity in the very person of Jesus Christ, who reveals himself precisely as ‘the Truth.’ From this perspective, truth, sought with intellectual rigor and scientific honesty, finds its horizon and its ultimate criterion in charity, since speaking the truth is, for Christians, an act of love that builds up, heals, and guides the person toward their fullness. Recognizing that Truth has a personal face and a relational dimension prevents knowledge from becoming an instrument of domination, exclusion, or mere utility, orienting it instead toward the service of justice and the dignity of every human being, especially the most vulnerable.”
