Maldives: Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office opens investigation into the deaths of five Italians during a dive

Rome, 15 May (LaPresse) – The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the deaths of five Italians who died in the Maldives during a diving excursion in an underwater cave. The inquiry, coordinated by Chief Prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi, aims to clarify the causes of the tragedy, whilst investigators await an official report from the Italian consulate. Meanwhile, operations to recover the bodies have begun: according to local authorities, one has already been recovered by rescuers engaged in the difficult operations at sea. The victims are Professor Monica Montefalcone, her daughter Giorgia Sommacal, Muriel Oddenino, Gianluca Benedetti and Federico Gualtieri.
