Santanchè case, the minister: "A new hearing soon, I will reflect on resigning but on my own"

Rome, Feb. 25 (LaPresse) – Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè spoke at the Chamber of Deputies, where a vote is scheduled on the motion of no confidence presented by the Five Star Movement and also signed by the Democratic Party and Green and Left Alliance. "A new preliminary hearing will take place soon. On that occasion, I will reflect and consider the possibility of resigning. I will do it alone, without any pressure, coercion, or supposed blackmail," Santanchè stated, who has been sent to trial for false accounting in the Visibilia case and accused of fraud against the INPS. "The media life sentence is a conviction that will remain for life, it’s never-ending," she said, accusing the opposition of media lynching. "Regarding the so-called COVID layoff file, my involvement was limited to deciding, as I believe almost all Italian companies did, to apply for that benefit to protect jobs. However, it will not be up to this Parliament to decide, I trust the judiciary, and we’ll see what happens next," she added. "I don't even want to mention those who said that my hands 'are stained with blood.' That doesn't shame me, but it does shame those who made that accusation, which shows, in its grandiosity, a meanness and human cruelty that some opponents are willing to use, but certainly not against their colleagues," she continued. "I want to address the issues raised with the utmost transparency, reaffirming my commitment to the institutions, my oath taken before the President of the Republic, my respect for the judiciary, and also for the fundamental principles of our legal system," the Minister concluded.
