Milano, May 1 (LaPresse) – "This is not the time for propaganda, but for responses. Deaths and injuries are increasing. There is clearly a problem with safety. And now even the Prime Minister admits it: her measures don’t work because they are wrong. Health must become an investment, not a cost. It’s a matter of denied rights: to life, dignity, and fair pay for work." This is what Maurizio Landini, the secretary of CGIL, said in an interview with Repubblica, where he urged people to "vote on June 8-9 in the referendums that put the value of work at the center."
"Cancel cascading subcontracting" and "reverse the lowest-bid contracts," are some of the trade union leader’s proposals.
"Employ more inspectors and INAIL doctors. Establish a special public prosecutor's office. And the crime of manslaughter at work."
Regarding employment data, Landini said, "We need to know how to interpret it. When I see that 550,000 young people left Italy between 2011 and 2023, 43% of them graduates, because they find short-term contracts and low wages here, I wonder in which world the Prime Minister lives. Her government has expanded precarious work. Fixed-term contracts are growing, even those that last less than a month, and involuntary part-time jobs. Women have the lowest employment rate in Europe."
