Budapest, 28 June (LaPresse) – "It is very important to be here to defend democracy and defend freedom. Here, the ban on Pride is censorship and institutional discrimination. We cannot accept this, and that is why we have decided to be here with our bodies to say that you cannot ban love by law and that you cannot ban differences by law. In the European Union, if you touch the rights of one, you are touching the rights of all." These were the words of PD secretary Elly Schlein in Budapest to participate in Pride, which has been banned by Hungarian law since this year. She was joined by MEPs Alessandro Zan, head of rights in the PD national secretariat, Annalisa Corrado, Cecilia Strada and Brando Benifei. The delegation also included Iratxe García Pérez, leader of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. The delegation joined that of Renew Europe with Carlo Calenda to head to Városháza Park for the start of the parade.
