Rome, June 29 (LaPresse) – “After crippling the rail transport system, Salvini is now grounding the skies. The air traffic chaos that hit airports in Northwestern Italy is yet another failure by the worst Minister of Transport in the history of the Republic,” declared Democratic Party (PD) MPs Anthony Barbagallo, PD group leader on the Transport Committee, and Andrea Casu, vice-chair of the same committee, in a joint statement.
The two MPs announced the submission of an urgent parliamentary inquiry to clarify the causes of the IT failure that disrupted air traffic across Milan, Turin, Genoa, Bergamo, Florence, and Pisa — during a crucial weekend for millions of travelers.
“What happened is extremely serious: passengers stranded for hours, families forced to spend the night in airports, vacations ruined. It is truly unacceptable that in 2025 such a major breakdown can occur without clear and immediate explanations regarding responsibility and preventive measures,” the Democratic MPs added.
“Salvini simply announced, after the fact, that he had ‘followed the situation.’ But it’s time for the Minister to appear before Parliament and explain why the air traffic control system showed such a vulnerability,” they continued.
The inquiry was also signed by PD MPs Ouidad Bakkali, Valentina Ghio, and Roberto Morassut, all members of the Transport Committee. “We will not stop until all responsibilities are brought to light. While Salvini engages in social media propaganda, the country grinds to a halt. It is clear he is unfit for the role he holds.”
