Rome, 3 July (LaPresse) – ‘Ensuring health and safety at work is a priority for this government. This is demonstrated by the many measures we have adopted since taking office, which have affected the various areas related to this issue.’ These were the words of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a video message sent to the presentation of the annual report of the Italian Workers' Compensation Authority (INAIL), attended by President Sergio Mattarella, ‘who, with his presence, reaffirms the absolute centrality that institutions recognise to health and safety at work,’ Meloni emphasised, recalling: "We have introduced the so-called compulsory credit licence for companies and self-employed workers who intend to operate on construction sites. We have arranged for the recruitment of new inspection staff to significantly increase the number of inspections and checks. We have allocated significant resources to reward companies that invest in prevention. But we have also taken action on administrative and criminal penalties, for example by reintroducing the offence of illegal employment, which had been decriminalised in the past but has since become the fastest growing offence, often concealed by fictitious contracts and secondments."
