A government should intervene immediately to defend one of its citizens from an absolutely disgraceful sanction.’This was the comment made by Angelo Bonelli, member of parliament for Avs, outside the Chamber of Deputies on the sanctions announced by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio against Francesca Albanese, ‘a UN representative who defends human rights’, while ‘Netanyahu, responsible for crimes against humanity and with an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, is welcomed with state honours by Trump’. ‘This,’ he continued, ‘is indicative of the degradation that international politics has reached today and the delegitimisation of international law.’ ‘The Italian government is totally subservient to Trump and Netanyahu,’ Bonelli emphasised, thus trampling on ‘the dignity of the Republic with this subservient attitude towards a war criminal.’ The co-leader of Avs reiterates the "duty to stand by Francesca Albanese, and for this reason, as Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, we have launched this popular petition to nominate her for the Nobel Peace Prize. We will ask MPs and anyone else who wishes to do so to sign a formal letter, accompanied by the popular petition (which currently has over 50,000 signatures), so that her nomination for the Nobel Prize is taken into consideration.
