Rome, July 17 (LaPresse) – "I find it shocking that the mayor learns from a newspaper that he is under investigation and not from the Prosecutor's Office. This is an unacceptable method," said Milan’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, commenting to Corriere della Sera on the news of the investigation against him in the city’s urban planning inquiry. The accusations are twofold: one for false statements about personal qualities of himself or others regarding the appointment of the former president of the City’s Landscape Commission, Giuseppe Marinoni; the other for complicity in undue inducement related to the "Pirellino" project by architect Stefano Boeri and businessman Manfredi Catella, president of the Coima group. "The Pirellino? We sold it in 2019 and are still at a standstill. Six years have passed and the work has never started. It’s not inducement, it’s been an ongoing discussion because we never reached an agreement on what could be done," Sala explained. Along with the mayor, 21 people are under investigation. "The composition of the Landscape Commission," Sala emphasized, "is managed by a dedicated city department that selects profiles and decides the members. The relationship between the mayor and the commission is practically nonexistent. I also add that I have never had Marinoni’s phone number."
