Nato, Mattarella: ‘The lessons of the 20th century have been forgotten; a renewed commitment is needed’

Rome, 22 July (LaPresse) – "We are living in a phase of international relations marked by increasingly pervasive threats and the weakening of certain cornerstones in relations between states. It seems that the success achieved at the end of what was the long confrontation of the Cold War now appears to be a thing of the past, that the leadership of some states has renounced the construction of a secure and just international order for all in order to give in to the temptation of anti-historical power politics. The lessons of the 20th century seem to have been almost forgotten. The changes that have taken place require renewed commitment and adaptability, including within NATO." These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during a meeting at the Quirinale with a delegation from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its establishment.
