Rome, July 27 (LaPresse) – “On the 32nd anniversary of the via Palestro massacre in Milan, we pay a respectful tribute to the victims and renew our shared commitment against organized crime,” writes the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, on Facebook.
“The bombs that night,” he explains, “were part of a much broader subversive strategy, which also led to the attacks in via dei Georgofili in Florence, at the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano and the Church of San Giorgio al Velabro in Rome, and to the killing of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.”
“The mafia wanted to intimidate the State, and it did so by targeting places of our history, culture, religious identity, and the judiciary. But that same State was not afraid and did not bow before the danger,” he concludes, emphasizing that “today, as then, institutions and citizens are called upon to safeguard the memory of those attacks and civil coexistence, with the same responsibility and determination.”
