Urban planning inquiry in Milan, Moratti: ‘Sala leads to stagnation, we need a civic candidate’

Milan, 1 August (LaPresse) – ‘This council’ led by Giuseppe Sala "has ignored the housing problems of the middle and lower-middle classes and has focused only on making Milan attractive to high earners. This type of urban planning has created a social divide and has failed to combine development with attention to social issues, which we have had.‘ So said Forza Italia MEP and former mayor of Milan, Letizia Moratti, in an interview with Quotidiano Nazionale. ’I see the risk that this council will lead to inaction over the next two years. In September, a decision should be made on the future of the San Siro stadium. AVS and the left wing of the PD have asked Sala to change course. Therefore, it is very likely that the City Council will not make a decision on San Siro. But not having a stadium in the city is damaging, not only for sport, but also economically, for Milan and for Milan and Inter," she added. Ahead of the 2027 municipal elections, Moratti emphasises that “the centre-right will find a candidate capable of challenging the centre-left for control of the city. We need a civic candidate who embodies Milanese reformism and is capable of holding together the different souls of the city”.
