Tariffs, Italian PM’s Office: "Not an ideal endpoint but a foundation for beneficial EU–US relations"

Rome, August 21 (LaPresse) – "The EU–US joint declaration, which today formalized the political agreement reached last July 27 in Scotland between President von der Leyen and President Trump, finally offers the business world a clear framework for the new context of transatlantic trade relations. It is not yet an ideal or final endpoint, but some key milestones have been reached, starting with the avoidance of a trade war and the establishment of the foundations for mutually beneficial commercial relations." This is what was stated in a note from Palazzo Chigi.

"Of particular importance," the note adds, "is the all-encompassing nature of the 15% horizontal tariff, which includes the automotive sector and strategic sectors (pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, lumber) still under investigation by the United States, as well as the exemption granted to sectors such as aerospace, generic drugs, active ingredients, and chemical precursors."
