Milan, 30 September (LaPresse) – ‘On 11 December, three days after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, 14 days before Christmas, three days before my daughter's birthday, the left wing is sending me to trial in the Court of Cassation’ regarding the Open Arms case. ‘That trial’ lasts one day and "can end in two ways: either they confirm the acquittal and I commit to returning to Lamezia to celebrate because I did not commit a crime and defended the borders and honour of my country, or they could cancel 268 pages of acquittal and send me back to trial where I risk a sentence of up to six years in prison. In that case, I will still return to Lamezia Terme to celebrate because I defended my country'. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini, speaking at an election event with other coalition leaders in support of Roberto Occhiuto, centre-right candidate in Calabria, in Lamezia Terme, in the province of Catanzaro.
