Rome, Nov. 21 (LaPresse) – “The awareness-raising actions in schools against violence against women promoted by this government are numerous, and among them is education in respect introduced by Minister Valditara.” This was stated by Eugenia Roccella, Minister for Family, Birth Rate and Equal Opportunities. “Regarding prevention strategies,” she continued, “our aim is to reduce femicides, and the international conference being held today in Rome has precisely the goal of sharing effective experiences and reliable data. If those making controversy have the same goal as ours, we await data that demonstrate the effectiveness of sex education in reducing femicides and violence against women, based on evidence and correlations. We are always open to discussion and debate on this. If on the other hand this is just a pretext for controversy, because for some on the left the government’s great work against violence is disconcerting, any comment is superfluous. Even today the UN, through the special rapporteur on violence, described the new Italian law on femicide as a model. We are pleased to have shared it with the opposition and have shown the will for real cooperation in fighting violence; on the left, sometimes it seems annoyance prevails at seeing that this government is among the most effective ever in action against violence, but we will continue, as always,” Roccella concluded, “to seek the broadest possible consensus.”
