Rome, 22 December (LaPresse) – ‘The fundamental objection I heard in the debate is the accusation that the government is implementing a policy of austerity. I would translate this policy of austerity with the term prudence.’ This was stated by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti in his replies at the end of the general discussion in the Senate on the budget. ‘I think that the reform of supplementary pensions, which we have courageously tackled, is an unavoidable issue and a step that will go down in history,’ he added. ‘Without the second pillar, pensions in the distant future will not be able to guarantee decent pensions. So it is a choice that in the long term will do a lot of good, especially for young people, and I stand by that,’ he concluded.
