Rome, 23 April (LaPresse) – "What I discussed last week with my colleagues is very simple: the Commission is today proposing a temporary framework for Iran in certain sectors – transport, agriculture and fisheries – granting the power to authorise state aid. It is not enough, because if you have no fiscal space for those measures where you allocate aid, you must also offer the possibility of a derogation. So not a generalised clause, but only on those matters that they themselves have already recognised. In my view, this is a reasonable proposal. After that, if they say no to this as well, I’ll say that I’m right and they’re wrong.” So said the Minister for the Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti, on the sidelines of a meeting at the Quirinale. The minister added that it would be “inconsistent and illogical” to propose the temporary framework without a deviation, because “everyone is already up to their necks in trouble”.
