Flotilla, Schlein: ‘The government and the EU must work towards their immediate release and the unblocking of aid’

Rome, 18 May (LaPresse) – "The latest attack on the flotilla represents yet another act of piracy in international waters by the Israeli government. Yet another illegal action, in defiance of international law, in the vicinity of a European country’s waters, involving further seizures of vessels, including two Italian boats, and the unlawful arrest of peaceful activists engaged in a humanitarian mission. The Italian government and the European Union must use every channel to secure the immediate release of all the seized activists, who must not be taken to Israel. And they must also work to unblock all the humanitarian aid needed by the Palestinians, which is not reaching them. But let us remember once again: words are not enough; unless real sanctions are imposed, the Israeli government will continue to violate international law with an unacceptable sense of impunity.” So said PD Secretary Elly Schlein.
