Rome, 20 May (LaPresse) – "The images of the Global Sumud Flotilla activists being seized, handcuffed, forced to their knees and mocked by Ben Gvir – a man wanted by the International Criminal Court – are chilling; these are crimes against human dignity. Not only does Netanyahu’s criminal government commit repeated acts of piracy in international waters and near European shores, but it also detains activists and our fellow citizens in violent and inhumane conditions. The Italian government and the European Union must make every effort to secure their immediate release and ensure the release of all essential humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. Sanctions are needed against Netanyahu’s government and his extremist ministers, who continue to violate international law and cover up the violence of settlers in the West Bank. A clear and urgent signal must be sent: the Italian government must lift its veto on the suspension of the EU-Israel agreement, due to the blatant violation of the most basic human rights.” So said PD Secretary Elly Schlein.
