Minetti case: Nordio says, ‘As far as we're concerned, the case is now closed’

Rome, 4 June (LaPresse) – “I appreciated the firmness with which the statement from the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office refuted the insinuations made by the press, and as far as we are concerned, the case is now closed.” So said Justice Minister Carlo Nordio at a press conference at Palazzo Chigi following the Cabinet meeting, speaking about the case relating to the pardon granted to Nicole Minetti. “I hope that the opposition itself, which at the time reacted very violently, even calling for my resignation on the basis of what could already be seen then as rather dubious reports, understands that it is one thing to offer criticism – which is more than legitimate, indeed necessary – of the government and ministers when it comes to the political merits of one or more decisions, but it then becomes almost ridiculous when it is based on credulity regarding certain insinuations which subsequently proved, as was evident, to be completely unfounded,” concluded the Minister of Justice.
